Quick tip: Be honest about email volume/frequency when recipients sign up for a mailing list

If you offer constituents the ability to subscribe to newsletters or other mailing lists online, make it very clear at the sign-up location what will be sent to the list, and how often.

If someone signs up for specific mailings, do not include their email address in unrelated mailings without their permission.

It's very easy for someone who becomes annoyed by email frequency or content (i.e. feeling they received something they did not request) to submit a complaint to their ISP, and it takes very few complaints to get blacklisted entirely by an ISP.
