Mobile Athletics pages (Page Manager)

There are two mobile Page Formats that deal directly with Athletics: the Athletics Event List and the Athletics Team Directory.

Athletics Event List

Athletics Event List pages pull event scheduling information directly from the Athletics Manager module on the main site and format it for display on a touchscreen device. In Page Manager, the Event List page type offers a number of options to customize which events are actually presented to end users. As with all mobile pages, it is possible to create multiple Athletics Event Pages, each with different configurations set. In this way, you could create (for instance) one schedule for Fall sports, another for Winter sports, and a third for Spring sports. You could also create a Practice Schedule and a Game Schedule, or schedules that only show Home or Away events, etc.

Event List Properties:

  • # of days to display before today: Enter a number in this field to specify how far back in the past the Athletic Events List page will look to find events to display.
  • # of days to display after today: Enter a number in this field to limit how far out into the future the list will look in Athletics Manager for events to display.
  • Max events to display: Set the maximum number of events to display on the page at one time. If the total number of events which are pulled from Athletic Manager (as configured by the days in the past/days in the future settings, above) is greater than the number set in this field, the list on the mobile page will be truncated. In the example above, the list would display only the last 8 entries, even if it found 30 that matched the date-range settings.
  • Only show events with results: Check this box to hide all Athletic Events that have not had a result (Win/Loss) entered into Athletics Manager.
  • Show event types: Configure which kinds of events are displayed.

NOTE: it is possible to establish multiple Athletic Event Lists – one for practices, one for games, one for tournament games, etc. Simply create a new Athletic Event List under Mobile in Page Manager.
  • Only show home/away: Use these radio buttons to display only Home games, only Away games, or both (default).
  • Only show league/non-league: Similar to “Only show home/away,” this control can filter out events which are (or are not) set as 'league' events in Athletics Manager.
  • Date Sort Order: Choose to sort by either Ascending date (lists the next upcoming event at the top of the page, scroll down to find events in the future), or by Descending date (top of page displays the events farthest out in the future, scroll down to move closer to the current date).
  • Filter teams as follows: Use the “Add filter…” dropdown menu to select which events will be displayed in this Athletic Events List. Available filters include:

    • By School:
    • By Season:
    • By Sport:
    • By Division:
    • By Gender:
    • By Team:
If filters are set, only teams that meet the selected filter criteria will be displayed on the Athletic Event List. Selecting a filter category will display a new dropdown menu, which can be used to select a particular entry within that category. For instance, selecting “by Season:” will create a new dropdown, with “Fall,” “Winter,” “Spring,” and “Summer” categories. Once a filter is created, it can be deleted by clicking the red “X” to the right of the dropdown menu. Again, multiple pages with different filters can be created in order to separate different schools, seasons, sports, divisions, etc. onto individual Athletic Event List pages.

The "Athletics Manager" link at the bottom of the configuration options in Page Manager will open Athletics Manager in a new window.

Now let's look at a sample event in Athletics Manager, and see how it would appear on the mobile Athletics Event List page:

This event is set to occur one time, on April 27, 2011 at 2:00 pm. It is a Tournament event. Other configured options include the opponent, the Advantage (it is an Away game), and the Location. Additionally, text has been entered into the "Custom Directions" field. Let's see how this appears on the mobile Athletics Event List page:

The Athletics Event Page displays the team name in bold, followed by the opponent's name, the advantage, and the date and time of the event. Users can tap on this event listing to bring up a detail screen with more information:

The detail screen lists all of the same information as the Event List page, along with the address of the event, and the information entered into the "Custom Directions" field. Because this event is listed as 'Away' and this opponent has an associated address in Athletics Manager, the mobile page also displays a link to Google Maps. A user can tap this link to see the event location in Google Maps, and enter their own location in order to receive driving directions on their mobile device.

If an event detail page is viewed after recap and result information has been entered into Athletics Manager, the score and recap summary will be displayed as well.

Athletics Team Directory

The Athletics Team Directory lets mobile users look up current information on sports teams that are configured in Athletics Manager. The same information that is available on a team page on the full site can be presented on the mobile site, as well. There are four main sections to any team page:

  • Overview: displays general information about the team that has been entered into Athletics Manager
  • Events: presents a list of upcoming team practices and games
  • Roster: shows team members and associated information
  • Coaches: displays information about team coaches

All of these tabs can be configured; the Schedule, Roster and Coaches tabs can also be hidden from every team's detail page entirely. If no information is entered into the Roster or Coaches tabs for an individual team in Athletic Manager, the corresponding tabs will not display on the detail page for that particular team, either on the main site or on the mobile page.

  • Show Overview: This menu determines what information is presented on the Overview tab. Available options are:
    • Text - displays any text entered into Athletics Manager > [Team] > Properties > Overview Content box
    • Last Recap – displays the result and recap information for the most recent event which has recap information in Athletics Manager
    • Off – displays no overview content - the detail view defaults to next tab in line which is set to show: Events/Roster/Coaches.
    • Use the “Default” radio button to select which tab will be displayed by default on any Athletic Team detail page.
  • Show Schedule: Deselect this checkbox to hide Schedule tab on the detail view for all team pages.
  • Show Roster: Deselect this checkbox to hide Roster tab on the detail view for all team pages.
  • Show Coaches: Deselect this checkbox to hide Coaches tab on the detail view for all team pages.
  • Default event types: Use the checkboxes to set which types of events will be displayed on the Schedule tab for each team.
  • Filter teams as follows: Apply filters to restrict the Athletic Teams directory based on selected criteria.

The Team Directory page is always sorted first by season - all Fall sports teams will be grouped together at the top, followed by Winter, Spring and Summer teams in their own groups. If you would like to override this behavior you could create multiple Athletic Team Directory pages, each one filtered to only display teams from a particular season. Within each season, the display order of the individual teams is determined by the settings in Athletics Manager > Settings > Sports tab.

Clicking on an individual team name will bring up a detail page for that team. The information displayed on the detail page is determined by the configuration settings on the Athletic Teams Directory page in Page Manager (see above).

On the events tab, users can click an individual event to see the detail view of that event, just as within the Athletics Event List page.

When viewing a Team Detail page, users will see an "Options" icon at the upper-right of the screen. Clicking on "Options" will allow users to access RSS or iCal feed URLs, which can be opened by, and saved to, the default calendar software on the user's mobile device.

If event information is hidden from general users and limited to team members, parents, etc., those constituents will not be able to see athletic event data until they log in to the mobile site.
