Meta is deprecating the Instagram Basic Display API on December 4, 2024. API (Application Programming Interface) is like a messenger that helps different software programs talk to each other. It tells them how to ask for information and how to share it.
URGENT DEADLINE
After December 4, 2024, all existing Instagram username sources (Posts and Reels) will no longer sync new content into the Feeds module using the existing API.
This article will show you what needs to be done in order to maintain uninterrupted service.

Mandatory Actions from Meta
Our vendor partner has created a new application on Meta’s platform, allowing them to access an alternative API.
However, Meta’s new requirements mean customers will have to complete these two actions:
ACTION #1: Convert Instagram accounts to either Business or Creator types
This can be done at any time before the next step. Clients can use the resources below for guidance. If you already have an Instagram Business or Creator account, skip to step two.
ACTION #2: Reconnect Instagram @Username accounts on the Connected Accounts screen in the Feeds module.
This is the reauthentication process required by Meta.
- Reconnect your Instagram accounts in the Feeds module and existing connections will start to expire on December 3rd.
- Open the Feeds module within Composer, which uses an SSO from your Composer login.
- If you see a red "Fix Now!" button on your live feed, click that button.
- You should be taken to an Inspect screen. In the Instagram section, click the red "Connect your Instagram usernames account" button.
- You will then be taken to this screen. Click the Allow button.
- Once you click Allow, it should take a few seconds before the browser window will return you to the Inspect screen in the Feeds module.
- If you only have one Instagram username source, then this should complete the steps. If you have multiple Instagram username sources, you need to complete this for every one you wish to still use in Feeds. Make sure to log out of an existing Instagram account before refreshing the next one.
The refreshed Instagram connections now reauthenticate your existing Instagram username sources and any Feeds element on the site should resume loading the new Instagram posts.
FAILURE TO COMPLETE STEPS
- Failure to complete these steps NOW will result in Instagram @Username sources to stop pulling new content starting December 4, 2024. The next time you need to reconnect Instagram sources, you will be guided through upgrading the Instagram account to either Business or Creator.
- Your existing Instagram posts before that date should continue to display in the Feeds module and Feeds element.
Successful reconnect
Once you've done these Instagram connections, then the next Instagram connection should auto renew. The "valid until" date signifies when the existing connection should do so. The exception is if you change the Instagram username or password, at which point you will need to manually renew next time.
