Migrate eNotify files to Resources for use in Messages

This article refers to our legacy product, eNotify, which will no longer be available and support for the product will be discontinued, effective August 1, 2023. For the best Finalsite experience, we recommend using our Finalsite Messages, which provides enhanced security and reliability for your school's email communication needs. Visit our client portal for additional information and next steps.

If you are just starting to use Messages, you may want to move your files over from eNotify so that you can continue using the images used in your previous templates. Messages uses Resources, while eNotify and the beta version of Messages use a separate file system. This process is also applicable to beta Messages users.

You can migrate files on an “as-needed” basis. There isn't a way to bulk-move all files from eNotify or those you used in the beta version of Messages; however, we have created some videos and instructions to help make the process a bit easier.

Note: Private files cannot be used in messages, so the Private files section will not appear in the Messages file system.

Moving files from eNotify to Resources for use in Messages

To move files from eNotify, you'll want to copy the URL from the file in the eNotify file manager and use it to upload a new public resource to Resources. The following video and instructions detail this process.

Here are our step-by-step instructions:

  1. Have eNotify and Resources both open.

  2. In eNotify, navigate to the Templates tab.

  3. Select any template and, once in that template, click Browse on any empty Image element. (You can even drag one into the template temporarily, if needed.) Or, click on an existing image and click "Change image" from the Content Properties panel.

  4. Once in the eNotify file manager, preview the file you’d like to transfer.

  5. When the file opens in a new window/tab, copy the URL.

  6. Navigate to Resources and select any folder to upload the file to. A separate branch exists for Messages, which you can choose to take advantage of.

  7. Click the green “Upload Public Resource” button and then select “Web Address.”

  8. Paste the URL in the field. The upload will begin automatically.

  9. Add any file details, then save.

You can then use that file and any file that you have in Resources already in any of your Messages templates.

Moving files from the beta version of Messages to Resources

If you've already been using Messages prior to the Resources integration, you can import the files you used in the old file manager into Resources directly from the Messages template.

Here are our step-by-step instructions:

  1. Open the template with the image you would like to transfer to Resources.

  2. Select the image. Copy the URL from the Content Properties menu.

  3. Click “Change Image” to access the file system (Resources).

  4. Select a folder for the image. A separate branch exists for Messages, which you can choose to take advantage of.

  5. Click “Import” and paste the URL into the box.

  6. Click “Search.”

  7. Once the image appears to the right, click on it to complete the upload.

  8. To make sure that you update the template or message so that it uses the new Resources file, click “Insert.”

Note: This only needs to be done for images that were uploaded into Messages before the system was converted to Resources on Nov. 10, 2018.
