Update from Google: Brand Accounts in G Suite for Education

Google recently announced that Brand Accounts are no longer supported for G Suite for Education school domains. They will be revoking membership of user accounts from Brand Accounts on July 10, 2019.

Google suggests looking into your Brand Accounts at https://myaccount.google.com/brandaccounts in a web browser.

To preserve any existing content associated with a Brand Account, Google suggests downloading your data while logged into the Brand Account.

Our SEO team suggests transferring primary ownership of the Brand Account to a non-G Suite for Education Gmail account using the following procedure: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/7311601

Although Finalsite Support cannot help with the transfer of the account, we hope that these articles from Google will help you with the transition.

  • I'm curious how other finalsite schools are getting around the "YouTube Brand Accounts as a G Suite Administrator for Education"?

I found this article and directions to "transfer ownership of your schools' Brand youtube channel" .... but I'm wondering best practices/how are schools setting this up?

    1) are schools making generic school google accounts like "yourschoolname@gmail.com" so they can change ownership outside of a G Suite Education Administrator?

    2) What is the purpose of deleting Brand accounts for G Suite Education Administrators? (is it the legal kids under age?)

    Any insight is helpful

  • Hi Gary,

That's a great question for the Finalsite Community! Our forum where Finalsite users can connect and ask best practice questions just like this one is located at www.finalsitecommunity.com. If you ask over there, you might just stimulate a discussion on the matter and help out other schools with the same question.

    Regards,
    Lauren
