Set your site to “Live”

Switching a Composer domain from Production to Live mode is the final step when launching a site, telling Finalsite to accept the DNS changes. This should only be done when DNS settings have already been updated or are being updated simultaneously — checking the box before DNS changes go through can cause temporarily broken links.

💡Quick answers

  • When should you set your Composer domain to Live? Only when DNS settings have been updated or are being updated simultaneously; setting Live before DNS changes propagate can cause broken links.
  • How do you set a domain to Live in Composer? Hover over the domain > three-dot menu > Settings > General tab > Host Names section; copy the Primary Host Name, check the Domain is live box, paste the host name into the confirmation field, click Confirm, then Apply.
  • What happens if you check Domain is live too early? Broken links may appear in some areas of your site until DNS updates finish propagating; only check the box when, or just before, DNS is updated.
  • Does this process apply to redesigning an existing Composer site? No; this article only covers launching a new domain. Going from one Composer site to a redesigned Composer site uses a different process.

When you are ready to launch a Domain in Composer you can switch it from Production mode to Live mode in order to accept the DNS changes on the domain. You should only set and confirm your site to go live when, or just before, your DNS settings have been updated to launch your site.

Important Note

This article does not apply if you are going from a Composer site, to a new redesigned Composer site.

To set your site Live, find the Domain Settings section for the appropriate Domain in Composer. These settings can be found when you hover over the Domain, click the 3-dot menu, and select Settings.

Under the General tab, you’ll see the Domain’s Primary URL and a Domain is live checkbox in the Host Names section.

  1. Copy the Primary Host Name.
  2. Check the box next to Domain is live.

Important Note

The box Domain is live should ONLY be checked when, or just before, your DNS settings have been updated to launch the site. Checking the box may create broken links in some areas of your site until the DNS updates are revolving properly.

On the next screen, in the Confirm going live window, follow these steps to set your site to Live:

     3.  Paste the Primary Host Name you copied in Step 1 into the spot next to the red arrow below.
     4.  Click Confirm.
