Forms Manager: Pay with a form

This article explains how to accept payments on a form in legacy Forms Manager, including setting up a payment gateway and adding a currency field so the form knows how much to charge.

💡Quick answers

  • Setting up payments on a Forms Manager form? First set up a payment gateway on your site, then enable the form to process payments, and finally add a currency field so the form knows how much to charge.
  • Where is the payment gateway configured before enabling a form? A payment gateway must be set up on the site first, as described in the Payment gateway overview and setup article, before it can be applied to a form.
  • How is credit card processing turned on for a specific form? Check the Process payments with this form box on the Payment tab and select the gateway you have already set up on your site.
  • Why does a form need a currency field to collect payment? The form needs a currency field so it knows the amount to charge; this can be a text field for manual input or a selection field like radio buttons, checkboxes, or a select list.
  • Does this article apply to the new Forms module? No, this article covers the legacy Forms Manager product; schools using the newer Forms module should refer to the separate article on which forms module they have.
  • What are the steps to enable payment on a legacy form? Steps: set up a payment gateway on the site, check Process payments with this form on the Payment tab and select the gateway, then add a currency field to the form.

This article refers to our legacy product, Forms Manager. For the best Finalsite experience, we recommend using our newest product, Forms, which is already available to you in your modules list. To learn more, please review "Which forms module do I have: New Forms or Legacy Forms Manager?"

Now that you’ve learned how to build and edit a form, and before you move on to setting up redirects and notification emails, you may need to set up payments for your form. If you want to collect money using your form, this is where to begin.

Step 1: Set up a payment gateway

The first step to enabling payments on a form is to set up a payment gateway on your site. If you have not already done so, please see our article on Set up a payment gateway for further instructions.

Step 2: Enable the form to process payments

Once you've got a gateway set up on your site, you can enable credit card payments on any form simply by checking the "Process payments with this form" box in the Payment tab and selecting your gateway.

Step 3: Add a currency field to the form

In order to process payment, the form needs to know how much to charge. This is accomplished by designating fields as currency fields, which can either be text fields for manual input or selection fields (radio buttons, checkboxes, or select lists). Refer to Use currency fields on a form for more details about how to use and customize these fields for currency.
