Mobile App for school leaders: Decide how visitors log in and access your mobile app content

Admins can configure login settings in the Finalsite Mobile App to control how users access district and school content. For example, you can require users to log in, removing the option to browse the app as a guest.

This article will show you how to configure this option, what variables exist, and what it will look like for your users.

💡Quick answers

  • What login options are available in the Finalsite Mobile App? There are three: No login (open access), Optional login (guests can browse but hit prompts for restricted content), and Login required (no guest access at all).
  • Can I let some users browse without an account while still protecting certain content? Yes! The Optional login setting lets guests browse freely but prompts them to log in when they try to access restricted content like student-specific updates or internal documents.
  • Which login setting is best for a district that prioritizes transparency? No login (Open access) is ideal, since all public-facing content is available to anyone without requiring an account.
  • How do I update the login settings in the app? Go to Mobile Apps in the module menu, select the app you want to configure, scroll to the Login Settings section, choose your preferred option, and click Update in the bottom right corner.
  • When should I require all users to log in? Login required is recommended when your app contains sensitive data, personalized dashboards, or content meant only for internal audiences, anywhere security and privacy are the priority.

Configure Login Settings

  • Navigate to Mobile Apps in the module menu, and select the Mobile App whose Login Settings you'll be adjusting.
  • Scroll down to the Login Settings section.

Choose one of three login configurations depending on your community’s needs:

  • No login (Open access): Visitors can browse the app freely without logging in
    • All public-facing content is available to guests.
    • Ideal for school and district communities that want to promote transparency or provide general updates to the broader community.
  • Optional login (Login or Continue without login): Visitors can browse as guests but will encounter login prompts for restricted content.
    • Admins can designate which content requires authentication (such as student-specific updates or internal documents).
    • Useful for balancing public visibility with privacy controls.
  • Login required (Login only): Visitors must log in to access any content within the app
    • No guest browsing is available.
    • Best for schools and districts prioritizing security, personalization, or internal-only communication.

Select the radio button next to your option and click Update in the bottom right corner.

Best practices for admins

As you are configuring the login option, here are a few additional tips to consider:

  • Use Optional login to highlight public events while protecting student-specific updates.
  • Consider Login required if your app includes sensitive data or personalized dashboards.
  • Communicate login expectations clearly in outgoing messaging to your community.
