Districts and schools that have both Ask AI and the Finalsite Mobile App can now let families chat with their Ask AI assistant right inside the mobile app, not just on the website. This article explains what the feature looks like for families and how admins enable it.
đź’ˇQuick answers
- What is this feature? A Finalsite Mobile App section inside the Ask AI admin platform's Test & Launch tab lets you display your Ask AI chatbot to families inside your Finalsite Mobile App.
- What do families see? When enabled, the Ask AI assistant appears on the app's home screen, greeting visitors by name so they can type a question and get an answer, the same way they would on the website widget.
- Who can turn this on? An Ask AI admin, from the Test & Launch tab in the Ask AI platform.
- Which chatbot answers questions in the app? Whichever instance you select in the Connected chatbot dropdown. Only one chatbot instance can be connected to the mobile app at a time.
- Do families need to do anything to see it? No. Once an admin toggles it on, it appears automatically for anyone using the mobile app; no update or setup is required on the family's end.
- Is this a separate product? No. It uses your existing Ask AI knowledge base and settings; you just need both Ask AI and the Finalsite Mobile App to enable it.

How it works for families
Once enabled, Ask AI appears on the mobile app's home screen the same way it does as a widget on your website: with a friendly greeting message, the chatbot's name and avatar, and an invitation to ask a question.
- Families tap into the chat and ask questions in their own words.
- Ask AI answers using the same personalized knowledge base, appearance, and tone of voice configured for that chatbot instance in the Ask AI Manage tab.
- No separate login or app update is required. As soon as the toggle is turned on, the assistant is available to anyone browsing the mobile app.
Turn on Ask AI in the mobile app
This is done from the Ask AI admin platform, on the Test & Launch tab.
- Step 1: Log in to your Ask AI platform.
- Step 2: In the left navigation, click Test & Launch.
- Step 3: Scroll down to the Finalsite Mobile App section.
-
Step 4: Toggle Ask AI on Mobile App on.
- Toggled off: No Ask AI option is shown in the mobile app.
- Toggled on: A Connected chatbot dropdown appears.
- Step 5: Use the Connected chatbot dropdown to select which chatbot instance you want families to interact with inside the mobile app.
For full details on the rest of the Test & Launch tab, including installing the website widget, see "Ask AI Manage: Configure settings and knowledge base" > Test & Launch tab.
Managing which chatbot is connected
Only one Ask AI chatbot instance can be connected to the mobile app at a time; this matters most for districts running multiple instances (for example, a separate chatbot per school).
- The Connected chatbot dropdown always shows whichever instance is currently connected.
- That selection stays the same even as you switch between and preview different chatbot instances elsewhere in the Ask AI platform. It only changes when you pick a different chatbot from this dropdown.
- If your organization has more than one instance, decide as a team which single chatbot should represent you in the mobile app before turning the toggle on.
