This article explains how to remove 'View Profile' links and name links from directories in Constituent Manager, including disabling links globally and controlling individual elements.
💡Quick answers
- Where do I disable name links? Constituent Manager > Settings > Constituent Roles > [Role] > "Link names to profile details"
- Where do I disable the 'View Profile' button? Same location: "View Profile link to profile details"
- Can I hide these links only in specific directories? Yes. Disable them in Composer element settings instead to affect only that directory.
- What's the difference between name links and View Profile links? Name links make the constituent's name clickable; View Profile links are a separate button or text link.

Understanding link options
Constituent directories can display two types of interactive links:
| Link type | What it does | Where to configure it |
|---|---|---|
| Name link | Makes the constituent's name clickable to open profile details (usually in a popup or profile page) | Constituent Manager > Settings > Constituent Roles > "Link names to profile details" |
| View Profile link | Displays a separate "View Profile" button or text link next to the constituent entry | Constituent Manager > Settings > Constituent Roles > "View Profile link to profile details" |
When either option is enabled, control where it opens: in a popup, on the same page in a Profile element, or on a different page.
Disable links globally (for all directories)
To remove name links and View Profile links from all directories site-wide:
- Go to Constituent Manager.
- Navigate to Settings > Constituent Roles.
- Click the role to modify (for example, Faculty & Staff).
- In the Directory tab, find these two options:
- Link names to profile details: toggle OFF to disable name links.
- View Profile link to profile details: toggle OFF to disable View Profile links.
- Click Save.
This change applies to all directories that use this role.
Disable links in a single directory
To remove links from one specific directory without affecting others, configure it in the Composer element settings:
- Go to Composer and open the page with the directory.
- Click the Constituent element > Directory format to edit it.
- Click the Element settings gear icon.
- In the Link To section, set it to None to disable both name links and View Profile links for this element only.
- Click Save.
⚠️ Important Note
This only affects the specific element on that page. Other directories using the same role will still display links unless disabled globally.
Best practices
- Global approach: If profile links should never appear site-wide, disable them in Constituent Manager settings. This is simpler to manage.
- Selective approach: If most directories need links but one or two don't, keep links enabled globally and disable them only in specific Composer elements.
- Mobile considerations: Profile links open in popups by default, which works well on desktop but may feel cramped on mobile. Test the directory on phones and tablets to see if removing links improves the experience.
- Combine with Contact forms: If hiding profile links, consider using the Contact form feature (instead of raw email addresses) so visitors can still reach staff members.
