Vimeo element

The Vimeo element embeds a Vimeo video player on a Composer page or banner using a standard share link. It supports a single video or a list of videos from an account URL, and includes troubleshooting for common URL format and privacy issues.

💡Quick answers

  • Where is the Vimeo element? In the Social tab of the Element Library.
  • Which URL format works in Composer? Use the standard share link (vimeo.com/123456789); manage links, showcase/folder links, and time-stamped links are not reliably supported.
  • Can the element display multiple videos from a Vimeo account? Yes; paste an account URL and choose "Display all videos" to show up to 25 videos, with a View on Vimeo link for the rest.
  • Vimeo video not loading in Composer? Check that the video is Public or Unlisted (private videos won't render), the URL is a standard share link, and your domain is whitelisted in Vimeo's embedding settings if restricted.
  • Does the video render inside the Compose editing interface? Sometimes not; videos blocked in Compose mode will usually appear correctly on the live or preview site.

What are Elements?

Elements are the fundamental building blocks of your Composer pages. Learn more about how elements work in the article, "Understanding elements" and read about each of the 5 tabs in the element library: Standard, Module, Layout, Social, and Shared.

Element Settings

In addition to the common element settings, the Vimeo element has the following configuration options.

General Settings

  • URL: Paste the URL for the specific video or the user account you wish to display.
  • Display only first video: If an account URL is pasted in the field above, choose this option to display only the most recent video uploaded to the account.
  • Display all videos:  If an account URL is pasted in the field above, choose this option to display a list of multiple videos uploaded to the account, which will play in the player at the top of the element.
    • Show a maximum of [X] videos: Select up to 25 videos to display in the element, followed by a "View on Vimeo" button to allow users to view the rest.

URL Type Example Format Works in Composer?
Standard share vimeo.com/123456789 YES (Recommended)
Manage link vimeo.com/manage/videos/12345 NO
Showcase or folder vimeo.com/showcase/12345 NO
Time-stamped vimeo.com/12345#t=20s MAYBE (Best to avoid)

 Troubleshooting Tips:

These are some common reasons why a Vimeo element might not work initially and need some tweaking:

1. Formatting errors

  • Wrong URL structure: Using a "Manage" URL (e.g., vimeo.com/manage/videos/...) instead of the standard share link (e.g., vimeo.com/123456789).

  • Showcase links: Attempting to paste a link to a folder or collection rather than an individual video.

  • Extra parameters: URLs containing "tracking" or "time-stamp" strings (e.g., ?t=30s) can sometimes break the element's ability to pull the video ID.

2. Privacy & domain blocking

  • Restricted embedding: If Vimeo is set to "Specific Domains," the video will fail unless the client whitelists both the live domain and the finalsite.com admin domain.

  • Strict privacy: Videos set to "Private" will not render; they must be "Public" or "Unlisted."

  • Referrer policy: High-security browser headers (like no-referrer) can prevent Vimeo from verifying the domain, causing the video to block itself.

3. Composer-specific quirk

  • Preview mode: The video may not render inside the Compose interface for security reasons but will appear correctly on the Live or Preview site.

  • HTTP vs. HTTPS: Using http:// in the URL field can trigger "Mixed Content" warnings, preventing the video from loading.
