Posts Quickstart Guide Step 7: Grant access levels

This article explains how to grant access levels for the Finalsite Posts module, including enabling Composer for admin user groups and setting Global, Board, and Collection level permissions.

💡Quick answers

  • What must be enabled before an admin group can access Posts? Composer must be enabled for that admin user group in the Admin Users module, or the group will not be able to view or use the Posts module at all.
  • Can Portal Users be granted the same granular permissions as Admin Users? No; Admin Users can be given granular permission levels at the Board and Collection level, while Portal Users can only be assigned Global permission levels.
  • What are the steps to set up Posts access levels? First enable Composer for the relevant admin user group, then set overall Global permission levels for the Posts module, and finally use the Board and Collections tabs to configure more limited, granular access for specific users.
  • Why does Posts offer so many different permission levels? Different team members need different amounts of access; one admin might need full control over every board and setting, while another may only need to publish posts without deleting anything.
  • What comes after granting Posts access levels to your team? Posts management is ongoing; you'll continue creating boards, expiring old posts, and adjusting permissions as new hires join and your community's interests change.

Welcome to Step 7 in the "Posts Quickstart Guide" series, giving you a "quickstart" to using posts with your Finalsite products. Now that you have configured your Post elements, add Post tools elements alongside them to provide for deeper level of engagement for your readers.

Step 1: Manage posts admins in the Admin Users module

  • Enable Composer for any Admin User group that will be granted access to the Posts module. Otherwise, they cannot view and utilize the Posts module.

Posts permissions are somewhat unique as Posts users may be either Admin Users or Portal Users. Here are a few reminders:

  • Admin Users can have permissions set at Granular Levels for Boards and Collections.
  • Portal Users can only be given Global permission levels.

Step 2: Set Posts permissions

Global permissions are set first because they determine the overall access to the Posts module that a certain person would be granted.

Why are there so many permission levels?

One of your admin users may have complete freedom to all boards and settings in the Posts module (Admin Level) while another may need to be limited to only be able to publish a post without deleting, etc. Finalsite customers love the different levels to be able to give your team what they need to be successful!

Once you have set the overall levels, click on the Board and Collections tabs below to walk through setting the more granular, limited permission levels.
