Permissions is the process of granting an admin user on your team access to edit, make changes, add content, delete, and do many more actions within a certain area of your platform. This article will help you understand how permissions work in the Finalsite platform.
Finalsite's Three-Step Guide to Setting Permissions
In each instance where you are considering what level someone on your team should have, think of this three-step process:
Step 1: Manage people in the Admin Users module
As the year goes on and new faculty are hired, follow this same Three-Step Guide to make sure that your new admin users have the perfect level of access to help them be successful in their role.
Step 1: Manage people in the Admin Users module
Keep in mind that:
- you may already have admin groups set up for you.
- you can re-organize them yourself anytime by creating groups and defining the specific rights in those groups.
- here is where admin users are managed, added, and can be deleted.
Read more about this in the article, "Set up and configure the Admin Users module." Then come back for Step 2!
Step 2: Set up Global permissions within your modules
Next, levels of access need to be set to apply a broad level of permissions to each admin user group defined in Step 1.
Every module in the Finalsite system has its own permissions area, found in slightly different places:
-
Permissions tab in the left navigation banner:
- Composer, Mobile Apps, Posts, Locations, and Resources
- A Settings Gear in the top right corner:
- People Icon > Admin Users module THEN in the Rights Tab in the module itself:
Step 3: Limit or increase levels with Granular permissions
Each module has different ways of setting more specific permission levels, depending on the way it has been set up. Click below to find guidelines for setting granular permissions within each module.
