This article covers how to access and log in to Finalsite Chat in the Finalsite Mobile App and Chat module, including how to download the app and how to access chat via a web browser URL.
💡Quick answers
- How is the app downloaded? Search for the school or district name in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and install the app from there.
- Is it possible to use Chat without downloading the app? Yes. The district or school can provide a web chat URL that works in any browser on any device.
- What are the login credentials? Enter the username and password provided by the district or school. Select Forgot password on the login screen to reset via email if needed.
- Is Chat available in other languages? Yes. The app supports 57 languages for the interface, and Chat supports real-time message translation into 45+ languages.
- Where is the Chat icon in the app? The Chats icon appears in the bottom toolbar of the mobile app. If the app was deployed as a Chat-only instance, the app opens directly to the Chat home screen.
Step 1: Access chat via app or web browser
There are two ways to access Finalsite Chat. Choose whichever fits the device and preference.
Download the mobile app
Search for the school or district name in the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and tap to install. The school can provide the exact app name to search for if it is hard to locate.
- iOS: Tap Get next to the app in the App Store, then Install. An Apple ID password may be required to authorize the download.
- Android: Tap the app in Google Play, then Install. Accept permissions when prompted.
Access chat in a web browser
No app download needed. The district or school will provide a chat URL. Paste it into any browser on a computer, tablet, or phone to open the chat login screen directly.
Step 2: Log in
Enter the username and password for the school account on the login screen.
Recover login credentials
- Enter an attempted username on the first screen.
- Select Forgot password on the second screen to receive a reset link at the email address on the account.
- If the district uses a third-party login (such as Google or Microsoft SSO), follow the prompts to authenticate through that provider instead.
Select a language
On first login, a language prompt may appear. Select the preferred language for the app interface. If the language is already set in the district's SIS, the app may pre-select it automatically. Learn more in How translation works in Finalsite's Mobile App.
Step 3: Navigate to chat
Find the chat icon in the mobile app
After logging in to the mobile app, find the Chats icon in the bottom toolbar and tap it to open the Chat home screen. If no bottom toolbar appears, the app is configured as a Chat-only instance and will open directly to the Chat home screen on login.
Navigate web chat
Entering the web chat URL or logging in via browser takes users directly to the Chat home screen — no navigation needed.
Step 4: Tour the chat home screen
The Chat home screen is divided into two sections:
- Chat rooms appear in the top half. These are group conversations assigned by the school (classes, teams, clubs, or school-wide channels).
- Direct messages (DMs) appear in the bottom half. These are private one-to-one or small group conversations.
Step 5: Manage notification preferences
Once logged in, configure notification settings to control when and how the app sends alerts. See Mobile App for community members: Manage your subscriptions and notifications for the full guide.
⚠️ Important Note
Notifications can only be received and managed while logged in to the app. If the notification settings area is missing from the account profile, contact the school for help with account access.
Next: Start chatting
With the app downloaded (or browser open), account logged in, and notifications configured, the next step is learning how to send messages, share files, and manage conversations. See Chat for community members: Connect and collaborate.
