Overview
In the United States, all business SMS traffic sent over 10-digit long codes must be registered through the 10DLC system. This registration links a business brand and campaign to a specific set of phone numbers, allowing carriers to verify the sender's identity and messaging intent. Messages sent from unregistered numbers or rejected campaigns are blocked at the carrier level and will not be delivered to recipients.
This requirement applies to SMS messages sent through Messages, Messages XR, and Messages XR Enterprise, as well as SMS notifications pushed through the Mobile App chat feature.
Common causes
Identify unregistered accounts
If the Finalsite account has not completed 10DLC registration, all outbound SMS messages will be blocked by US carriers. Registration must be completed before any messages can be delivered. For background on carrier configuration, see Carrier options for text messages and Adding new text message (SMS) carriers.
Recognize rejected campaign screening
Even when a brand is registered, each messaging campaign must pass carrier review. If a campaign is rejected during screening, messages associated with that campaign will be blocked. Common reasons for rejection include unclear use cases, missing opt-in language, or message content that does not match the registered campaign description.
Resolve the issue
Contact Finalsite Support to check registration status
Contact Finalsite Support to verify the account's 10DLC registration status and confirm whether any campaign has been approved. Support can review the current registration state and advise on next steps specific to the account.
Avoid retrying screened messages
Do not attempt to resend messages that were blocked by carrier screening. Repeated sends from an unregistered or rejected account may worsen carrier filtering and lead to additional restrictions on the account. Wait until registration is confirmed before sending again.
Allow time for carrier propagation
After registration is completed or a campaign is approved, allow 24-72 hours for carrier propagation before testing. Registration changes do not take effect immediately across all carriers.
