This article covers the Chat Manager permission level in Finalsite Chat, including what Chat Managers can do in chat rooms and direct messages and how that differs from the Chat Participant role.
đź’ˇQuick answers
- What is the Chat Manager role? Chat Manager is the permission level assigned to teachers and staff who manage specific chat rooms. Chat Managers can create and manage rooms, post in any room they manage, mute participants, temporarily block users, and send files.

- Who can Chat Managers send direct messages to? By default, Chat Managers can initiate DMs with parents, students, and other teachers. Specific DM permissions are configured by school or district admins and may vary.

As you prepare to manage your chat room, it's important to understand the two types of chat methods available in Finalsite's chat feature and the available options within them: Chat rooms and Direct Messages.
Chatting in chat roomsÂ
- One-way chatroom: admin can send messages to a group without recipient ability to respond.Â
