Self-enabling Messages guide

This guide walks school admins through the self-service process for enabling the Messages module on their Finalsite site, including confirming technical prerequisites, setting up a sending domain, configuring reply-to addresses, and sending a test message.

💡Quick answers

  • What is the self-enabling Messages guide for? Walking site admins through activating the Messages module themselves, including domain setup, reply-to configuration, and sending a first test message.
  • Which technical prerequisites must be met before enabling Messages? Your site domain must be live and DNS properly configured; a sending domain (typically matching your school's email domain) must be verified in Messages settings.
  • Setting up a reply-to address before using Messages? Go to Messages > Settings > Reply-To Addresses; add and verify the email address that will appear as the sender and receive replies from your messages.
  • How do you confirm Messages is working after enabling it? Send a test message to yourself or a small group; verify it arrives in the inbox (not spam), the From address looks correct, and replies reach the expected address.

Finalsite provides for you a bulk email tool called Messages for schools to use. You simply need to already have Composer and Resources enabled to have Messages appear in their module menu. This option will only be available to the main site admin(s) at your school.

Are there any prerequisites to using Messages?

Yes! Your school must use Composer AND have the Resources module enabled. Click here for more info on enabling the Resources module.
