This article covers how to tell the Connected SSO and Legacy login experiences apart in Finalsite, including how to identify which one applies to a given site and where to find role-specific login instructions.
💡Quick answers
- How to tell which login experience applies? Compare the login screen to the examples below. A newer, redesigned screen indicates Connected SSO. An older-style username-and-password-only screen indicates Legacy login.
- Does it matter which one applies? Not for basic login and password reset; the steps are similar either way. It matters more when troubleshooting a specific feature, since multi-factor authentication only exists in Connected SSO.
- Will every school eventually move to Connected SSO? Yes. Finalsite is rolling out Connected SSO to all clients in waves. No action is required until notified.
Step 1: Determine the roleÂ
- Student, parent, or staff member trying to log in to view protected content, get alerts, or use portal links: see Portal user login help.
- Website admin trying to log in to edit or manage the website: see Admin user login help.
Portal users log in at yoursite.com/login. Admins log in at yoursite.com/admin. These are separate login screens with separate accounts, even for the same person using both.
Step 2: Compare the two experiences
| Login experience | Sign-in options | Multi-factor authentication | New user setup | Forgot password |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Connected SSO | Email and password, or an identity provider such as Google, Facebook, Apple, or SAML | Required on first login | Create account option directly from the login screen, with email verification | Automatic redirect after 3 failed login attempts; reset link emailed |
| Legacy login | Username and password only | Not supported | Account already exists; set a password using Forgot username or password | Forgot username or password link; reset link valid one hour |
