This article covers how student data works in Finalsite's Mobile App, including what must be in place before families see the Student view, who is responsible for each part, and where to find guidance for setup and support.
💡 Quick answers
- Who turns on Student Data? The Finalsite implementation team, as part of the implementation process.
- What must be in place first? Messages XR Enterprise set up to receive the school's student information system (SIS) data, and parent-student relationships in Constituent Manager.
- How does module visibility work? Modules appear automatically when the school's data includes them, so no manual setup is needed.
- Where are corrections made? In the original source system. The Student view is a view-only display.
- Who is the contact to get started? The Client Success Manager at clientsuccess@finalsite.com or the implementation team.

About student data in the Mobile App
Student data is configured during the implementation process. Finalsite sets up the data connection and turns on Student Data as part of that work.
Student data adds a Student navigation item in the bottom toolbar of the Mobile App for parents, guardians, and students. Teachers, staff, visitors, and alumni keep the existing location-based experience. School news, events, and directories are unchanged.
Review the requirements
- Finalsite Mobile App: Student data is part of the Mobile App.
- Messages XR Enterprise with SIS data: Messages XR Enterprise receives the school's SIS data, and the app reads that same data.
- Parent-student relationships: Each parent is linked to their students in Constituent Manager (for schools without a daily SIS integration, see Manage the Upload accounts tab). These relationships are created during the initial data connection and decide which children a parent sees.
- Class and attendance data: Class and roster data supports the schedule and assignments modules. Attendance data supports the attendance module.
Understand who is responsible
- Finalsite implementation team: Sets up the data pipeline and turns on Student Data for the school or district.
- The school or district: Keeps SIS data flowing into Messages XR Enterprise and keeps parent-student relationships current in Constituent Manager.
- Day-to-day data: Grades, attendance, and secure documents are managed through regular Messages XR Enterprise operations. See Manage the Upload student data tab, Help your community access securely delivered documents, and Send an Automated message with Messages XR Enterprise, or browse the Messages XR Enterprise knowledge base.
Confirm available data and module visibility
Possible modules include grades, attendance, schedule, assignments, cafeteria, library, bus, alerts, locker combinations, and report card documents. Each module appears when the school's connected systems provide that data type.
- Missing and upcoming assignments, classes, bus, and documents appear when there is something to show.
- Attendance displays No absences recorded when the list is empty.
- Cafeteria and library appear when the school allows them, using URLs from the school's Messages XR Enterprise data.
- When data is connected later, the module appears automatically with no extra setup in the app.
Identify who sees the Student view
Parents, guardians, and students linked in Constituent Manager see the Student view. Teachers, staff, visitors, and alumni keep the existing location-based experience.
Understand the family experience
Families see the following areas in the Student view, from top to bottom. Each area appears when the school's data includes it.
| Where in the Student view | What families can find |
|---|---|
| Top of the Student view | A toggle to switch between children, plus the student's name, grade, school, and a Personal info link. |
| Cafeteria and Library tiles | Current balances and fees. The Cafeteria tile opens the school's payment page when the school provides a link, and the Library tile lists checked-out books with return dates and replacement costs. |
| Missing assignments and Upcoming assignments | Work across all classes with scores and due dates. Show all opens the full list. |
| Classes | Each class with its current grade and percentage, a semester selector, and a Grades history button. Tapping a class shows the teacher, room, All, Upcoming, Missing, and Completed filters, assignment details, and the class's attendance. |
| Attendance | Totals for excused and unexcused absences and tardies by semester. Tapping the card lists every absence. |
| Other | Bus numbers with pickup and drop-off times, documents such as report cards, test reports, and student IDs that can be saved or shared, and the locker number and combination. |
| Notifications | Regular push notifications for threshold alerts, such as a new grade, an absence, or a low balance. Notifications are managed in the user's app settings. |

Prepare families
Because modules vary by school, set expectations before launch about what families will see. Link families to Student information in the Mobile App for families: Overview and getting started for help using the Student view.
