Credit card CSC fields

This article explains the credit card CSC (Card Security Code) field in Finalsite Forms payments, including why it's required and the exception for recurring payment forms.

💡Quick answers

  • What is the CSC field used for on a payment form? The CSC, or Card Security Code, is a three- or four-digit fraud prevention number on the back of a card that verifies the cardholder has the physical card during the transaction.
  • Is the CSC field required on all Finalsite payment forms? Yes, it's required to process credit card transactions securely, with the exception of forms using recurring payments.
  • Why don't recurring payment forms require the CSC field? Recurring payments have a separate disclaimer regarding CVV codes, since the card isn't present for each repeat charge; see the dedicated article on CVV codes and recurring payments for details.
  • Does this CSC information apply to Legacy Forms Manager? This article covers the newest Forms product; Legacy Forms Manager users should refer to their own separate help documentation.

The CSC (Card Security Code) field is a fraud prevention security feature for credit and debit card transactions, typically a three- or four-digit number found on the back of the card. It's used to verify that the cardholder has the physical card during online or phone transactions.

This article refers to our newest product, Forms, which is available to you in your modules list. You may be a Legacy Forms Manager user which has a different set of help documentation.

Not sure? Please review "Which forms module do I have: New Forms or Legacy Forms Manager?"

In Finalsite forms that collect payments, the CSC is required to process credit card transactions securely. By asking your constituents to enter this field in your forms, you are helping to protect your constituents from online credit card fraud.

The only exception would be if you are using recurring payments: see An Important disclaimer regarding CVV codes and recurring payments for further details.
