Add dynamic content to a message

Dynamic content blocks in Messages automatically pull current data from Finalsite modules (Posts, Calendars, Athletics Manager) into a message at send time. This makes recurring newsletters faster to compose and ensures content is always up-to-date without manual editing.

💡Quick answers

  • What is dynamic content in a Messages template? Content blocks that automatically pull live data from Posts, Calendars, or Athletics Manager at send time, so the message always contains current content without manual updates.
  • Adding a dynamic content block to a message? In the template editor, drag a dynamic content block from the Content tab into the message body; configure it to connect to a specific board, calendar, or athletics feed and set display options.
  • Can the layout of dynamic content be customized? Yes; configure the number of items to display, which details to show (title, date, thumbnail, summary), and the visual arrangement within the dynamic block settings.
  • Is dynamic content pulled at the time the template is saved or when the message is sent? At the time the message is sent; the block fetches the most current published data at send time, ensuring recipients see fresh content.

It's possible to sync dynamic content into a message using the Dynamic Content feature in Messages. This means that each message will populate with the most current and updated content from each of the following modules: Athletics Manager, Calendars (New Calendars module or Calendar Manager), and Posts. This article will focus on how it works to add dynamic content into a message or template using the Messages editor.

Before adding dynamic content into a message layout or template, you need to configure the settings for each content area (Athletics Manager, Calendars, and Posts) in the Dynamic Content tab in Messages left navigation. Once you've configured settings there, you are ready to add boxes into your message where this configured content will display.

Step 1: Add Dynamic Content into the layout

  • In the message editor, drag a Dynamic Content block into the message layout.
  • Once you see your Dynamic Content Block in the message, click on the block to define which content configuration to use. You'll choose from Athletics Manager, Calendar, and Post.
  • Select your Content and choice of configuration from the list.
