Linking to Multimedia Manager without autoplay

This article explains a workaround for stopping automatic playback when linking to legacy Multimedia Manager, including how a single-image slideshow can simulate a stopped player.

💡Quick answers

  • Why does media automatically start playing when linking to Multimedia Manager? Because any link to Multimedia Manager must point to a channel, folder, or media object, and the Media Player always begins playing something when the link is clicked.
  • How can you link to Multimedia Manager without triggering autoplay? Create a slideshow containing a single static image, such as your school logo, place it alone in its own channel, and link to that channel so the player appears stopped.
  • Can viewers still browse other channels after landing on the static slideshow? Yes; viewers can browse the other channels shown in the navigation even while the static single-image slideshow is displayed.

When creating links to Multimedia Manager you must link to a channel, a folder, or a media object in the Multimedia Manager, and something will always begin playing when you click the link. However, there is a workaround that may resolve this issue.

Create a slideshow with a single image in it, such as your school logo or static instructions on how to use the player and the navigation. Place the slideshow by itself in a channel you create, and link to that channel.

This will cause the Media Player to play the static, single-image slideshow. Since there is only one image in the slideshow, it will appear that the Media Player has stopped, giving you the effect you need. Viewers can then browse the other channels seen in the navigation.
