This article covers how channel editing rights work in legacy Multimedia Manager, including why all non-Administrator users start with zero access and where to grant channel-by-channel rights.
💡Quick answers
- Do admin users have channel editing rights by default? No; everyone except Administrators starts with zero rights to edit channels, and access must be granted individually on a channel-by-channel basis.
- Why is channel access restricted by default in Multimedia Manager? Because it's a high-profile tool that can distribute content across the website and externally via RSS, so control over who can edit what is deliberately locked down.
- Where do you grant a user rights to edit a specific channel? See the related article on editing rights to Multimedia Manager channels for the steps to grant channel-specific access to individual admin users.
This article refers to our legacy product, Multimedia Manager. For the best Finalsite experience, we recommend using our newest product, Resources, which is already available to you in left navigation by clicking on the folder icon. Learn more at "Resources overview."
Everyone except Administrators starts off with zero rights to edit channels in Multimedia Manager. Rights to edit channels must be granted by Administrators on a channel-by-channel basis. This is by design so that control over who can edit what is always maintained. That is especially important in a high-profile tool that can be used to distribute content throughout the website and beyond (via RSS).
