Create a YouTube Feeds source

This article outlines the YouTube source types available in Finalsite Feeds, including setup for username, playlist, and hashtag sources and how to locate the correct identifiers from YouTube URLs.

💡Quick answers

  • What YouTube source types are available? Username/channel (uploaded videos from a channel), Playlist (videos from a specific playlist), and Hashtag (videos tagged with a specific hashtag).
  • How do I display only videos made by the channel owner? Add /videos to the end of the username or channel ID (e.g., Finalsite/videos).
  • How is a playlist source identified? By the playlist ID from the playlist URL, preceded by an asterisk (e.g., *PLuKg-Whduhklge1dMCGsemN1Qr_ODqjtZ).
  • Are YouTube hashtag sources reliable? YouTube hashtag support is described as unreliable. Results may vary.

Step 1: Select YouTube in the Feeds module

In Composer, open the module menu on the left sidebar and select Feeds. Click the red + Add social media source button, then select YouTube from the Add a Social Media Source window.

Step 2: Configure a username or channel source

YouTube URLs come in a few formats, typically youtube.com/user/Finalsite or youtube.com/c/Finalsite.

  • Copy the username or channel ID from the YouTube URL (e.g., Finalsite).
  • To display only videos uploaded by that channel (excluding videos from other users appearing in the profile), append /videos to the end: Finalsite/videos.
  • Enter the value into the source field and save.

Step 3: Configure a playlist source

  • Locate the playlist ID from the playlist URL. For example, in www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuKg-Whduhklge1dMCGsemN1Qr_ODqjtZ, the playlist ID is PLuKg-Whduhklge1dMCGsemN1Qr_ODqjtZ.
  • Add an asterisk before the playlist ID: *PLuKg-Whduhklge1dMCGsemN1Qr_ODqjtZ.
  • Enter the asterisk-prefixed playlist ID into the source field and save.
