This article outlines how to configure a Blogs/RSS Feeds source in Finalsite Feeds, including how to enter an RSS feed URL and how images are retrieved from non-standardized feeds.
💡Quick answers
- What is required to add a Blogs/RSS source? The direct URL to a valid RSS feed. No account connection is required.
- Will images always display from RSS feeds? Not always; RSS formatting is not standardized and image retrieval may vary depending on how the feed is structured.
-
What is an example of a valid RSS feed URL? Wired.com's public feed at
https://www.wired.com/feed/rssis one example.
Step 1: Select Blogs/RSS in the Feeds module
In Composer, open the module menu on the left sidebar and select Feeds. Click the red + Add social media source button, then select Blog RSS from the Add a Social Media Source window.
Step 2: Configure the RSS feed source
- Enter the full URL of the RSS feed into the source field. For example:
https://www.wired.com/feed/rss - Save the source. Feeds will begin pulling in posts and their associated images.
Understand image retrieval behavior
Because RSS feeds are not standardized and can be generated by anyone, there is no guaranteed image format. Feeds attempts to retrieve the top image from each post either through an explicit URL tag or by pulling image tags from the post body. If images do not display, ensure the RSS feed formatting matches the standard as closely as possible.
