This article outlines how to configure a Pinterest Feeds source in Finalsite Feeds, including setup for username and board sources and known display quirks related to the Pinterest API.
💡Quick answers
- What Pinterest source types are available? Username (all pins across all boards for a user) and Board (pins from a specific board).
- Why do Pinterest posts appear at the top of the feed? Pinterest does not return a timestamp for pins, so Feeds assigns the current time when content is first pulled in. Posts will order correctly as new content continues to be retrieved.
- Are there known image display issues? Yes; users outside the US may encounter issues with Pinterest images over HTTPS. Contact support if images are not displaying.
Step 1: Select Pinterest in the Feeds module
In Composer, open the module menu on the left sidebar and select Feeds. Click the red + Add social media source button, then select Pinterest from the Add a Social Media Source window.
Step 2: Configure a username source
The username source pulls in all pins from a Pinterest user across all of their boards.
- Enter the Pinterest username into the source field and save.
Step 3: Configure a board source
The board source pulls in pins from a single Pinterest board.
- Locate the board's URL fragment. For example, to display the board at
pinterest.com/fooddaze/travel, the fragment isfooddaze/travel. - Enter the URL fragment into the source field and save.
Understand API display behavior
Pinterest does not return a "pinned at" timestamp. When a Pinterest source is first added, all retrieved pins will appear at the top of the feed with the current time assigned. As Feeds continues to pull in new content, posts will begin ordering correctly. If images are not displaying and the site is located outside the US, contact Finalsite support as Pinterest sometimes has issues with HTTPS image delivery in international regions.
