Create a Hashtag Feeds source

This article details how hashtag sources work in Finalsite Feeds, including how hashtags count toward source limits and which platform restrictions currently apply.

💡Quick answers

  • Does the same hashtag on different platforms count as multiple sources? Yes; the same hashtag on different networks counts as a separate source per platform. For example, pulling #WinterBreak from X, Instagram, and Tumblr counts as three sources.
  • Does Facebook support hashtag sources? No; Facebook no longer supports the use of hashtags in third-party integrations.
  • Are there platform restrictions on hashtag content? Yes; major platforms restrict how hashtag content is shared with third parties. Consult the missing hashtag posts in Feeds article for details.

Understand how hashtag sources count

Hashtags on different social networks each count as a separate source in Feeds. Refer to the platform-specific articles in this series for details on how hashtags work on individual platforms and what account requirements apply.

Step 1: Select Hashtag in the Feeds module

In Composer, open the module menu on the left sidebar and select Feeds. Click the red + Add social media source button, then select Hashtag from the Add a Social Media Source window.

Step 2: Configure the hashtag source

  • Enter the hashtag into the source field. The # symbol is not required unless specified in the platform's source window.
  • Save the source. Repeat for each additional platform where the hashtag should be tracked; each platform counts as a separate source.

Review platform-specific hashtag restrictions

Hashtag capability is more restricted across major platforms than in the past. Platform-specific requirements and restrictions are covered in the individual source articles for Instagram, Twitter/X, and Tumblr. See also the article on why hashtag social media posts may be missing in Feeds.
