Claim a custom Facebook username (vanity URL)

This article details how to claim a custom Facebook username (vanity URL), including eligibility requirements, the steps to set one up through Facebook page settings, and tips for choosing a username.

💡Quick answers

  • What is a Facebook vanity URL? A custom username that replaces the default string of letters and numbers in a Facebook page URL. For example, facebook.com/mycompany instead of facebook.com/page/mycompany/12548785.
  • Who can claim a vanity URL? Any admin of a Facebook business or fan page.
  • Can the username be changed after claiming? Usernames can only be changed once, so choosing carefully before claiming is important.
  • Why set up a vanity URL? It provides a shorter, more memorable web address and makes it easier to add the Facebook page as a source in Feeds.

Step 1: Claim the Facebook username

  • Go to www.facebook.com, click the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner, and switch to the business or fan page.
  • Navigate to the business Facebook page and click About in the left-side menu.
  • Click Edit next to Username, listed under the General section.
  • Enter the desired username into the field. A green check mark will appear if the username is available. Adjust the username if it is already taken.
  • Click Create Username. The vanity URL is now active and can be used when adding the Facebook page as a source in Feeds.

Review username guidelines

Keep the following Facebook username rules in mind before choosing a username:

  • Usernames can only be changed once; choose carefully.
  • Ownership of a username cannot be transferred to another party.
  • Usernames may only contain alphanumeric characters (A–Z, 0–9) or a period (.).
  • Each page can only have one username.
  • Usernames may not violate trademark rights.
  • Some generic words are not available as usernames.
  • If a trademarked name has already been claimed, notify Facebook to report it.
